Learn Korean with a Drama Scene | Weak Hero

Hello everyone!
This is Soo from Play the Korean.

Today we will start with a short scene from the Korean drama Weak Hero.

This drama became very popular for its quiet but powerful main character. Instead of fighting with strength, the protagonist uses intelligence and calm thinking.

"He looks like a victim, but he fights like a genius. Experience the chilling transformation of Yeon Si-eun in 'Weak Hero Class 1'."

🎬 The Scene

🗣️ Korean Line Practice

This powerful line appears at the end of the scene. Try listening and repeating it several times.

내가 부탁했잖아, 그만하라고.

Naega butakhaetjanha, geumanharago.

Meaning:
"I told you to stop."

💡 Expression Breakdown

내가 — I
부탁했잖아 — I asked you / I told you (remember?)
그만하라고 — to stop doing it

The ending -잖아 is often used when the speaker reminds someone of something that was already said before.

🎧 Pronunciation Tip

When Koreans speak naturally, it often sounds like this:

내가 부탁했자나 그만하라고

Try saying it slowly first, then faster like in the drama.

✏️ Practice Speaking

1️⃣ Calm but firm
내가 부탁했잖아… 그만하라고.

2️⃣ Angry tone
내가 부탁했잖아! 그만하라고!

Try repeating it aloud like the actor in the scene.

💡 Actor Connection

The lead actor of Weak Hero is Park Ji-hoon, a popular Korean actor and former K-pop idol.

Interestingly, he also appeared in a historical film that recently became a huge hit in Korea.

The movie is “The King's Warden (왕과 사는 남자)”.

The film attracted over 10 million viewers, which is considered a major success in the Korean film industry.

👑 A Story from Korean History

In this movie, Park Ji-hoon plays the young king Danjong.

Danjong is one of the most tragic kings in Korean history. He became king at a very young age but later lost his throne.

The story of this young king is both fascinating and heartbreaking.

In the next post, we will explore the historical story behind King Danjong and why his story still touches many people today.
