Who Was King Danjong? | The Tragic Young King of Joseon

In the previous post, we introduced the Korean historical film The King's Warden (왕과 사는 남자). The movie tells the story of King Danjong, one of the most tragic kings in Korean history.

But who was King Danjong in real history?

King Danjong was the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. He became king in 1452 when he was only 12 years old.

Because he was so young, the government was mostly controlled by powerful ministers. This made the political situation very unstable.

Only a few years later, Danjong’s uncle Prince Suyang seized power.

Prince Suyang eventually became King Sejo, and the young king Danjong was forced to give up the throne.
