Knock Knock Take a Break #4
๐ Batchim (Final Consonants)
Hello, everyone! This is Soo from Play the Korean.
Today we learn something very important in Hangul —
Batchim (final consonants).
1) What is Batchim?
Batchim is the consonant at the bottom of a syllable.
๊ฐ = ใฑ + ใ
+ ใ
๋ฐฅ = ใ
+ ใ
+ ใ
2) Basic Batchim Sounds
Many batchim sounds are simplified when pronounced.
ใฑ → k
ใท → t
ใ
→ p
Example:
๋ฐ → "bak"
๋ฐญ → "bat"
๋ฐฅ → "bap"
3) Sound Change Rule
When the next syllable starts with a vowel, the batchim moves.
๋ฐฅ + ์ด → ๋ฐ๋น
ํ๊ตญ์ด → ํ๊ตฌ๊ฑฐ
This is called liaison (linking sound).
4) Mini Reading Challenge ๐ฏ
๊น๋ฐฅ · ์ฑ · ๊ฝ · ์ง · ํ๊ตญ
Read slowly → then naturally.
Batchim is tricky — but you did great! ๐
